Diphu, June 14: Since the past two months, numerous inputs about presence and movement of armed terrorists in Dhansiri Reserve Forest were received. The densely forested area provides a safe haven to terrorist organizations active in Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao and Nagaland. The presence of armed terrorists in Dhansiri Reserve Forest also posed a grave threat to the peaceful conduct of the KAAC Elections scheduled on June 17.

With an aim to free the area from anti nationals and provide secure environment for smooth and incident free conduct of KAAC Elections, the Red Horns Division and 22 Sector Assam Rifles conducted a massive search operation in Dhansiri Reserve Forest on 09 June 17.

The massive search operation in the vast area was conducted by the Red Horns Division employing latest surveillance devices and Tracker Dogs to assist the ground troops in the conduct of this 72 Hour operation. Based on the intelligence provided by sources, a hidden cache of arms comprising five single barrel country made Rifles, one .22mm Chinese Pistol, 13 rounds of 7.62mm and four rounds of .22mm were recovered from Dhansiri Reserve Forest.

The operation was one of the many coordinated operations launched by the Army, Civil Police and district administration to show presence in remote and sensitive areas. The massive effort of the troops of Red Horns Division intended to free the area from anti nationals and provide suitable environment for upcoming KAAC Elections was lauded by the locals and civil administration.
